CrowdNet Technology

CrowdGlow uses CrowdNet technology to control unlimited numbers of phones at live events. All the audience have to do is install and open a CrowdGlow enabled app on their phone, and you have full real-time lighting control.

CrowdNet is a broadcast only Bluetooth protocol that doesn’t require any connections to individual phones. All modern phones that support Bluetooth 4 are capable of receiving the broadcasted signal, with no reliance on any external WiFi or 4G cellular networks.

Each transmitter only requires a single POE cable and multiple transmitters are networked together to increase both the frame rate and the coverage area.

A full example setup can be found in the Quick Start Guide of the documentation.

  • CrowdNet uses 2.4ghz Bluetooth Low Energy.

  • CrowdNet broadcasts on 3 fully redundant 2.4ghz channels. These are special Bluetooth channels that are not used by WiFi or any other wireless systems. The CrowdNet protocol is designed to be robust and resilient in even the toughest of wireless environments.

  • The CrowdNet transmitters high power Class 1 Bluetooth radios are capable of broadcasting over 2,000 meters in all directions. Multiple transmitters can be networked together to cover vast areas.

  • CrowdNet is capable of broadcasting up to 120fps per transmitter. Multiple transmitters can be used to increase the fps to 450, although most phone screens max out at 120fps - this provides a latency as low as 2ms and additional levels of redundancy.
